Assault

Assault charges in Texas range from Class C Misdemeanors (up to a $500 fine) to third-degree felony assault (up to ten years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine). When the assault is on a spouse or another family member, it is classified as a Class A Misdemeanor Assault and carries a sentence of up to a year in jail with a $4000 fine.

The prosecution treats these charges seriously, so you need a defense attorney who will do the same. It is essential to remember that you are innocent unless the prosecution can convince a jury beyond reasonable doubt that your actions warrant the charge you received.

After diligently researching your criminal history (or lack thereof) and the facts connected to the case, there may be evidence that you acted in self-defense. The physical contact may have been unintentional, or there simply isn’t enough proof to convince a jury of your guilt. No one should assume they are guilty because they have been arrested and charged with assault.
